Mr.Tom Symes qualified with honours from Leeds University Medical School in 1999. He continued his surgical training In Yorkshire and gained a Masters degree in Evidence based Orthopaedics from the University of Teeside in 2006. He completed his registrar training in the Nothern Deanery and gained FRCS (T&O) in 2010.

 

He then spent a year as a fellow at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow specialising in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery and learning about Enhanced Recovery principles and Navigated Knee Surgery. He was appointed as a consultant at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2011. He introduced Enhanced Recovery to the trust within his first year as a consultant which has transformed the care of all patients undergoing Hip and Knee Replacement. He led the development of Hull as a centre of excellence for Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery and is keen to raise the profile of the Hull and East Yorkshire Regional Arthroplasty Centre.

His professional interests include Primary and Revision Hip Replacement Surgery, Computer Navigated Knee Replacement Surgery, Enhanced Recovery after Surgery and improvement of Trauma services for Hull.

He lives locally and is married to a GP who works in Hull. He has 4 children and 2 dogs.
